The Thursday Pause
Finding Space to Breathe
Heeyyy there Remori People!
Ever had one of those weeks where your calendar resembles a game of Tetris—blocks stacked so tightly you can barely see the white space? That's been my reality lately. Between lectures, work meetings, and our Haaga-Helia’s Hosbyte project planning, I've found myself constantly jumping from one thing to the next without a moment to breathe.
But here's the thing about non-stop motion: we miss the colors in between.
This week's Rewind principle reminds us that sometimes we need to deliberately step back to see the full picture.
Here are three simple ways to create that essential breathing room today:
1️⃣ The Five Senses Reset:
Try this: Step away from your desk, find a quiet spot (even if it's just the hallway), and spend 60 seconds identifying something you can experience with each sense. Notice the texture of your clothing, the distant conversations, the taste of your coffee. This quick sensory inventory instantly pulls you out of digital overwhelm and back into your physical reality.
2️⃣ The Notification Vacation:
Try this: For just 3 hours today, put your phone on Do Not Disturb and turn off all desktop notifications. Place your phone screen-down or in a drawer. When you need to check messages, do it intentionally rather than reactively. Watch how your attention deepens on what's in front of you rather than what's pinging for your attention.
3️⃣ The Analog Hour:
Try this: Block one hour this evening for a completely screen-free activity. Read a physical book, take a walk without your phone, or have a face-to-face conversation. Be fully present in that analog moment without digital distractions. You might be surprised how different an hour can feel when it's not punctuated by glances at a screen.
"Life is black and white; Remori adds the color."
As we head into the weekend, remember that these small pauses aren't luxuries—they're necessities for reclaiming our humanity in a world that constantly pulls us toward distraction.
