The Monday Reset
Less But Better
I've been caught in a realization that won't let me go.
What if the path to better isn't about adding more, but taking away?
Last week while driving, I noticed my hand instinctively reaching for the radio. The silence felt like something to be filled—with music, a podcast, anything. I paused mid-reach and wondered: why am I so uncomfortable with empty space?
This small moment revealed something bigger. We've been conditioned to believe that improvement means addition. More features. More meetings. More content. As if quantity naturally enhances quality.
But what if we've misunderstood improvement entirely?
What if the better question isn't "What can I add to make this better?" but rather "What can I remove to make this essential?"
During Remori's early days, Joel and I discovered this accidentally. We replaced traditional meetings with walks along the seashore and quiet moments sitting by the water. No technology, just ideas, conversation, and occasionally notes. These natural settings felt right from the start. The sound of waves and the rhythm of walking brought a clarity that no conference room ever could.
I experienced this again recently during dinner at home. Instead of our usual routine—plates balanced on laps, Netflix playing in the background, phones within reach—we simply sat at the table. No screens, no distractions.
The conversation deepened. Flavors intensified. Time seemed to expand rather than vanish. By removing the extras, the essential elements—connection, nourishment, presence—had room to flourish.
By removing rather than adding, everything became sharper, more focused.
This week's invitation is simple:
When facing any challenge, pause before adding. Ask yourself what you might remove instead. What could you take away to make the situation better?
This isn't about deprivation—it's about making room for what truly matters. Sometimes having everything means appreciating what you already have and having the courage to let go of the rest.
What shifts when you focus on simplification rather than addition? What's one thing you could remove this week to create more space for what's essential?
"Life is black and white; Remori adds the color."
